I thought I would post this picture from Labor Day when we did the 50th anniversary WALK across the Mackinaw Bridge. I just held up the camera and took this shot. We were towards the beginning of the line but if you look up the left lane all you see is people and the right lanes have the cars. Over 75,000 people walked across the bridge this year.

BSM ~ Captain Dominic

This weekend I watched my two oldest nephews play on their 6th grade football teams. Unfortunately I never had a good opportunity to get a picture of Bryan in action (against my high school) but I did get a pretty good shot of Dominic in action as quarterback! That’s him, #23, wearing blue.

Make sure to go see Tracey at picture this for more pictures.

Best Shot Monday ~ 2fer 1

Last Thursday I had lunch with two of the bestest people I know, Becky and Rhonda. I met Becky when she was a student here and then she took me to a play that her twin sister was in and that’s how I met Rhonda. I absolutely adore both of them and it was great to get to have lunch with them. You see, Becky now lives in Iowa and Rhonda is in Grand Rapids so I don’t get to see them that often.

I love how “Halloween USA” is centered right above their heads. I didn’t do that on purpose and didn’t even notice it until I uploaded the picture.

Lunch also included all 5 of their children. I cracked up when I looked at the back of the van and this is what I saw

Thanks, gals, for loading up the “monsters” and coming to see me. It made my week!

Thursday’s Theme ~ Freedom

Tracey’s  theme for today is Freedom.

The first thought that comest to my mind with that word is the American Flag, the symbol of our freedom.  After 9/11/01 simply seeing the flag moved me and the first time I heard The Star Spangled Banner I cried.  Since then, I had a very similar feeling when I went to New Orleans a few months after Katrina.  Steve was staying 3 blocks away from where the levees broke.  The people that lived there lost EVERYTHING and I can’t even begin to describe to you what it was like to visit.  The closest thing I can think to compare it to is a war zone, that’s what it was like.  My heart broke and I know that I still didn’t comprehend even a fraction of what it must have been like to have been in their shoes.

The thing that, I guess surprised is the word to use, me the most is that I kept seeing the American Flag on people’s houses.  These houses were probably condemned since they were completely under the flood waters (on my first picture you can see where the water level settled) but they still hung the flag.  I can’t explain it, but it touched me to know that after all they had been through and were still going through, they hung the flag.

Thursday’s Theme: Three

I think I have a good shot for this week’s theme.

A couple of weeks ago we were headed “home” to see our parents. We were approaching Alma and I saw this big “o” in the sky. Then I looked to the North a little bit and noticed the word “ALMA” spelled out in the sky. Obviously there was an air show going. Then I watched the plane write the next thing in the sky. He/She was basically making a huge, downward spiral which I managed to get a shot of while driving 70 mph down the highway. When I looked at the picture on the screen I said “hmm, looks like a big 3”. That shot is my picture for this week.

Pets ~ BSM

My “Best Shot Monday” isn’t that exciting this week.  There weren’t nearly as many photo opps as there were last week.  So, this week I tried to get pictures of my pets for you.  Surprisingly,  Butterball cooperated

and Rusty, who normally loves to pose for the camera, was being stuck-up

I have, by far, had my best week ever for blogging!  The secret must be the pictures?  Well, if that’s the case I’m going to keep my camera in my purse, just like it is right now.  I don’t have children to take adorable pictures of but we’ll find something, even if it’s just pictures of me (and I always smile) or my laundry.

Thank you to everyone that has taken the time to look at my boring life, you really have helped spice it up for me.

On another note, TGIF!  This has been a long week for only having to work 4 days.  I need to start taking my lunches or something because the walls are starting to close in on me here in the office.  Everything is so flipping white in here! I need to figure out how to spice it up.  I did put a nice, bright, autumn wallpaper on my monitors (yes, I have two) and that’s helped.

So, I leave you today with a lovely picture of me taken at Stacie’s baby shower.  Have a  nice weekend.

Thursday’s Theme: Exposure

This week’s theme was hard for me to come up with and my picture might be a bit of a stretch.  I took this picture on Sunday on the boat to Mackinaw Island.  It was mid-morning, the sun was shining bright but the moon was still exposed.

Wow, this is my 3rd week in a row doing this, it’s fun!  I guess I should do this officially and say “for more of this week’s theme go visit Tracey at Picture This.”
