Some days I don’t know who’s the bigger fool, the student or the teacher. I swear, 90% of the time the students know more and have a better grasp on reality than the students. However, the generation coming up really scares me. Most of them expect to get something for nothing. They expect the world is going to be give to them on a silver platter and that’s not the way things work, at least, it’s never worked that way for me or about anyone else I know. I’m really worried about them but that’s been said for many generations. I know our parents must have cringed when they saw us growing up in the 80’s with our big hair and tons of make-up. At least we wore clothes that covered our bodies and I don’t think our morals were quite as bad as the ones I’m seeing now. One of the students I have, who is quite open with me, slept with 4 guys in one weekend alone. I can’t imagine! Now, they aren’t all quite that bad, but I get the feeling that the majority of them don’t have any problem having a one night stand or “taking one for the team”.
Besides their lack of morals they lack work ethic. Grant it, I’m typing this on work time but if there was something else I should be doing right now I’d be doing it. I don’t expect to come in here and get paid for 8 hours work and only work 30 minutes. Plus, I expect to work and not just sit on my butt and be pretty all day. They can’t find something to do, they have to be told what to do, step-by-step. THINK! These are college students, supposedly “smart” people.
Wow, I totally didn’t mean for this post to go there. I meant to be celebrating that today is the last day of classes and now it’s officially Summer! My summer’s aren’t “off” but they certainly are more laid back. This is the time that catch up on everything I couldn’t get done during the rest of the school year and prepare for next year.
On another note: My boss had her baby yesterday around 1:00. Welcome to the world Kate Helen and congratulations to Kurt, Karen and Abby for the new addition to their family.
